Worcester Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings had their fourth meeting Friday night in a six-game homestand for Worcester. John Nogowski hit a single at the top of the first for Rochester to make it a 1-0 game. But in the bottom of the second, Connor Wong hit his tenth homer of the season to drive in Triston Casas and just like that Worcester was on top 1-2. Franchy Cordero, who hit two dingers Thursday night, at the bottom of the fourth Friday night, hit a grand slam, driving in Triston Casas, Pedro Castellanos and Ryan Fitzgerald to make this a 1-6, Worcester game. Top of the seventh, Rochester made this a 3-6 game, getting two runs over the plate. Bottom of the seventh, Abraham Almonte hit his eighteenth dinger of the season to put Worcester on top 3-7. Bottom of the eighth, first Franchy Cordero hit a single to drive in Pedro Castellanos and then Abraham Almonte hit a single to drive in Nick Sogard to put Worcester on top 3-9, and with the top of the ninth scoreless, Worcester took their third straight win against Rochester.
New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers met in the preseason for the sixth time Wednesday night, this was their ninth meeting in the last nine seasons and for the third time in that time frame at Gillette Stadium. With 2:21 on the clock in the first quarter, Gonzalez’s 27 yard field goal was good to put the Panthers on top 3-0. With 12:24 on the clock in the second quarter, Montgomery got a touchdown for New England. Folk extra point was good to make this a 3-7 New England game. With 1:54 remaining on the clock in the second quarter, Folk made a 38 yard field goal and it was good to put New England top 3-10. With 1:46 remaining on the clock in the third, Zappe passed short left intended for Nixon but was intercepted by Hayes who took it for 50 yards to get the touchdown. Gonzalez’s extra point was good to make it a 10-10 game. In the fourth quarter, with 14:05 on the clock, Vizcaino’s 51 yard field goal was good to make it a 10-13 New England game. With 1:25 remaining on the clock in the fourth quarter, Roberts recovered the fumble and got the touchdown for New England. Vizcaino’s extra point was good to put New England on top 10-20 and by ten, New England won this game. New England had twenty first downs, 375 total net yards, made 67 offensive plays and only had possession of the ball for 30:14.
In double-A Friday night, the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Reading Fightin Phils 6-3. The Hartford Yard Goats beat the Fisher Cats 2-1.
The New England Revolution following Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw, are on the road to face CF Montreal on Saturday night at Stade Saputo. The Revolution enter Saturday’s match having won six consecutive meetings with Montreal, including one playoff meeting, dating back to 2020. New England holds a 14-10-3 advantage in the all-time series. A win Saturday night will put Revolution Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena, one win away from his 250th in league play.

Richard “Popeye the Sailor Man” Rivera, Hartford, Connecticut native is in Saudi Arabia on the Oleksandr Usyk-Anthony Joshua II undercard Saturday night. Rivera (21-0, 16 KOs) will fight Badou Jack (26-3-3, 16 knockouts) in a 10-round cruiserweight fight.
