Worcester Red Sox Fall 7-3 In Game Two Of Their Weekend Series Against The Syracuse Mets

Worcester Red Sox Saturday played their second post All-Star break game, hosting the Syracuse Mets for game two of a three-game weekend series at Polar Park in downtown Worcester. After losing game one of this series Friday night Worcester took their second loss Saturday with a Syracuse 7-2 win.

At the bottom of the third Ronaldo Hernandez hit a single to drive in Grant Williams to get Worcester on top 0-1, and then at the bottom of the fourth Pedro Castellanos made it over the plate to put Worcester on top 0-2. But after three innings going scoreless, Francisco Alvarez, at the top of the fifth hit his first grand slam to drive in Deven Marrero, Terrance Gore and Kramer Robertson for Syracuse to take a 4-2 lead. At the top of the sixth Deven Marrero hit his second homer of the season to drive in Mark Viento and put Syracuse on top 6-2. At the top of the eighth Khalil Lee hit a double to drive in Nick Plummer to Syracuse on top 7-2. In the bottom of the ninth Grant Williams hit a single to drive Johan Mieses and make it a 7-3 Syracuse game.

Sunday, Worcester will wrap this series up with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch. Sunday is Pirates, Princes & Princesses Day so WooSox are encouraging fans to dress up for revelry or royalty! Sunday is also Town Takeover Day for Leominster, MA. Tickets purchased for each “Town Takeover” night will benefit a non-profit from that town. At the end of the season, the town with the largest turnout will be rewarded with a trophy and special recognition.
