After four days off the Worcester Red Sox were back in action at Polar Park in downtown Worcester Friday night. But a 5-6 loss in the tenth inning against the Syracuse Mets wasn’t the outcome that Worcester was seeking to jumpstart the second half of their season.
This game kicked off with Gosuke Katoh at the top of the second hitting his sixth dinger of the season to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead. At the bottom of the fourth, after three scoreless innings, Christin Stewart hit a single to help drive in Triston Casas and make this a 1-1 game.
With three runs at the top of the sixth, Syracuse pulled away from Worcester to make this a 4-1 game. Top of the seventh, Nick Sogard hit a single to help drive in Johan Mieses to make this a 4-2 game but with Kaylin making it over the plate, Worcester made it 4-3 game, down by one. Bottom of the eighth Ronaldo Hernandez hit twenty first double of the season to help drive in Connor Wong and made it a 4-4 game.
At the top of the tenth Kramer Robertson and Khalil Lee both made it over the plate for Syracuse to win the game 6-4.
With Friday night’s loss and a loss on Sunday against the Norfolk Tide, on Saturday Worcester will host Syracuse for game two of this three-game series and are looking to bounce back to the winning column.
Saturday the WooSox will recognize Women in Sports with special pregame ceremonies and in-game promotions. Presented by UniBank. As always, Saturday is Sunset Catch on the Field.
