PawSox (Worcester Red Sox) Fall 3-2 To RailRiders

By Tiffany Williams –

The Worcester Red Sox on Saturday played game five of six against the RailRiders. Worcester opened this series with a 6-4 win on Monday but then slid backward on with a 2-4 loss on Wednesday, 3-5 loss on Thursday and then a 3-5 loss on Friday night.

Before their move to Worcester, WooSox’s final season as the PawSox at McCoy Stadium was canceled because of the impact of COVID-19 on sports so Saturday was “PawSox Heritage Day” and WooSox players wore PawSox uniforms and caps. The Jerseys worn by WooSox players Saturday night will be auctioned off and the proceeds will benefit the WooSox Foundation, and will be used to support WooSox community partners in Rhode Island. The starting bid is $100 with the buy it now option at $500. The auction will end on July 22nd at 7pm (www.woosox.com/auction).

After four scoreless innings the RailRiders at the top of the fifth got Phillip Evans over the plate to make this a 1-0 game But at the bottom of the fifth Ryan Fitzgerald made it over the plate for Worcester to make this a 1-1 game. At the bottom of the eighth Ronaldo Hernandez hit a single to drive in Grant Williams and make this a 1-2 Worcester game. But at the top of the ninth the RailRiders got two over the plate to win this game 3-2.

Sunday, the Worcester Red Sox will wrap this series up honoring those of Jewish heritage with a special rendition of pregame ceremonies and in-game promotions!

Before tonight’s game the Red Sox made some roster moves which included Jeter Downs and Phillips Valdez being recalled. RHP Kaleb Ort was selected to the active roster. Connor Seabold was added to the 15-Day IL with a right forearm extensor strain and INF/OF Christian Arroyo was added to the 10-Day IL with a left groin strain.
