After winning Friday night 16-2 and winning Saturday night 2-0 the Worcester Red Sox were looking to wrap things up in Allentown, PA. and go home with three straight wins. Just one thing, they needed to win Sunday and they did. Also, they needed to create some positive momentum after getting roughed up earlier in the month by the Mud Hens and the Red Wings. With their four wins against the Rail Raiders and now four wins against the Iron Pigs, the WooSox don’t look so much like moderate underdogs as they get ready for a six-game homestand against the Syracuse Mets.
First, Red Sox top pitching prospect Brayan Bello started for Worcester Sunday for his third triple-A start, He had an okay performance going five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and six strikeouts.
On the other side of the ball, after two scoreless innings Jarren Duran opened this game up hitting his fourth double of the season to help drive in Yolmer Sanchez and then off a wild pitch by Eastman, Jurran Duran scored to put Worcester up 2-0. Rob Refsnyder then helped to drive in Connor Wong to put Worcester up 3-0. The scoring parade wasn’t over yet for Worcester, actually, it was just starting and Ronaldo Hernandez contributed with a single to help drive in Rob Refsnyder and Jeter Downs.
At the bottom of the fifth the IronPigs had their only two runs of the game but the scoring parade continued for Worcester at the top of the seventh with Rob Refsnyder hitting his sixth dinger of the season. Then Christin Stewart hit his seventh dinger of the season and it didn’t stop their. Ronaldo Hernandez hit his third homer of the season to drive in Jeter Downs. At the top of the eighth Christin Stewart helped secure the win for this contest with a single that helped to drive in Connor Wong.
The Worcester Red Sox will have Monday off but will return home to Polar Park to square up with the Syracuse Mets on Tuesday to kickoff a six-game homestand.
