Jeter Downs Steals Home To Help Red Sox Win Spring Opener

Down in Florida on Thursday, the Red Sox had a 14-1 win against the Twins with WooSox favorites Duran, Cordero and Downs helping to get the W.

In the bottom of the first Bobby Dalbec hit a homer and got an RBI (Jarren Duran) to make it a 0-2 Red Sox lead. Then off a single hit by Ryan Fitzgerald to left field, both Franchy Cordero and Jeter Downs scored to make it a 0-4 Red Sox lead.

In the top of the third, Trevor Larnach scored for the Twins to make it a 1-4 Red Sox lead.

In the bottom of the fifth it was set up right for Jeter Downs starting with Downs getting walked, then after Yolmer Sanchez hit a single on a fly to right Downs made it look easy as he got to third and their Downs decided to steal home and make it a 1-5 Red Sox lead.

Bottom of the seventh, Izzy Wilson scored to make it a 1-6 Red Sox lead.

Bottom of the 8th, started rolling with Elih Marrero hitting a fly ball to left field and Koss, Hamilton and Wilson scored. Off a single hit by Tyreque Reed, Elih Marrero scored and then off a ground ball hit by Nick Sogard, both Tyreque Reed and Ceddanne Radaela scored to end the inning with the red Sox leading 1-14.

The Red Sox closed out their spring opener with 39 at bats, 14 runs, 14 hits and 13 RBI’s.

The Red Sox will be back in action Friday for their second Spring training game and that will be a matchup with the Rays at 1:05 PM.
