Worcester Railers Claim A 2-4 Win Against Maine Mariners

Saturday night at the DCU Center the Worcester Railers hosted the Maine Mariners.

Tonight was the 7th time this season that the Worcester Railers and Maine Mariners have met on the ice this season and the 4th time that they have played at the DCU Center.

They have played twice this past week with the Railers winning Wednesday night 6-7 and the Mariners winning Friday night 2-3.

Saturday night the Railers claimed a 2-4 win with Jordan Smotherman making three goals  to help the Railers secure their win.

In the first period, Brent Beaudoin scored the first goal of the game for the Worcester Railers to make it a 0-1 Ralers lead. Jordan Smotherman followed up with the second goal in the first period for the Worcester Railers to make it a 0-2 Railers lead. Jordan Smotherman made the third goal of the first period with 17:38 on the clock to make it a Railers 0-3 lead.   

In the second period Jake Bricknell made the first goal of the game for the Maine Mariners with 15:32 on the clock to make it a 1-3 Railers lead. Andrew Romano followed up with the second goal for the Maine Mariners with 16:32 on the clock to make it a 2-3 Railers lead.

In the third period Jordan Smotherman made his third goal of the game to make it a 2-4 Railers game.

Referee Laura Schmidlein made history Saturday night becoming the first female ref to take too the ice in the 34-year history of the ECHL. After playing hockey for four years with Amherst College, Schmidlein went into software development and officiating youth hockey games. She worked her way up to officiating college hockey and women’s professional hockey in the Premier Hockey Federation.
