Early this morning at about 9:41 a.m., officers with the Boston Police working a paid detail near Harrison Ave and Randolph Street observed Ernest Fields, 37, of Mattapan walking in the area of the Pine Street Inn.
These officers were familiar with who Fields was and were also aware that Fields was wanted on an outstanding warrant on charges of Armed Robbery and Threats to Commit a Crime. Additional officers responded to the area to assist these officers and attempt to stop Fields.
Fields then pulled out a firearm from his jacket pocket and began walking away from the officers, eventually walking onto Rotch Field.
The officers gave numerous verbal commands to the suspect to drop the weapon while attempting to de-escalate the volatile situation. During this exchange, the suspect made numerous threatening statements towards the officers.
Following a lengthy standoff, at about 5:07 p.m., members of the Boston Police SWAT engaged Fields and he was taken into custody. In addition to the outstanding warrant, Fields was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Carrying a Loaded Firearm on School Grounds.
