By Tiffany Williams –

In the first murder trial held at the Worcester County Superior Court since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, a jury on Thursday convicted Jose Crespo of first degree murder, home invasion, aggravated kidnapping, two counts of kidnapping, armed robbery while masked and arson.

The jury deliberated for a day before delivering its verdict, finding Crespo, 36, of Newark, NJ. guilty in the 2016 killing of 24-year-old, Kevin O. Cabrera-Soto, of Fitchburg.

The first degree murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Superior Court Judge James G. Reardon Jr. scheduled sentencing for Tuesday.
