Councilman Morris Bergman Proposing To Change Law To Help Familia Family

Worcester City Councilman Morris Bergman, is sponsoring a petition that would expand the law to allow the widow of fallen police officer Enmanuel “Manny” Familia to collect his full pension.

Officer Familia drowned in Green Hill Pond while trying to rescue a 14-year-old boy however drowning while serving in the line of duty is currently not a category that would let a widow collect an officer’s pension.

Officer Familia who was a five-year veteran of the Worcester Police Department was laid to rest last Thursday.

The City Council has to approve Councilman Morris Bergman’s petition to fully cover the Familia Family.
