On Thursday the NFL announced it was going to grow its social justice efforts through a 10-year total $250 million fund to combat systemic racism and support the battle against the ongoing and historic injustices faced by African-Americans.
The announcement comes after Rev. Al Sharpton called out the NFL while delivering the eulogy for George Floyd at his funeral in Houston.
Sharpton said, “The head of the NFL said, ‘Yeah, maybe we was wrong. Football players — maybe they did have the right to peacefully protest.’ Well don’t apologize, give Colin Kaepernick a job back.”
The NFL has not directly responded to Rev. Sharpton but on Thursday said that it will work collaboratively with NFL players to support programs to address criminal justice reform, police reforms, and economic and educational advancement.
