In East Haven, what began as a routine bar closing quickly spiraled into violence, leaving an officer assaulted and four individuals under arrest following a chaotic scene outside Rumba’s Bar on Main Street.
Police say the incident unfolded at approximately 2:04 a.m. on April 12, 2026, as officers assigned to a proactive crime suppression detail monitored a large crowd leaving the establishment. In the rear parking lot, several males were seen arguing before the situation escalated into a physical fight involving four individuals. Officers moved in and issued repeated commands to stop, but those commands were ignored.
During the altercation, one individual broke away and turned toward an officer attempting to restore order, striking the officer multiple times in the face. The officer was taken to the ground, where the assault continued. Authorities say pepper spray was deployed to bring the fight under control. Multiple people, including the injured officer, were treated at the scene by East Haven Fire Department medics.
Investigators determined the fight began between two separate groups of bar patrons who were leaving and heading to their vehicles. All four individuals involved in the altercation were taken into custody and transported to the East Haven Police Department.
