Holyoke — A major drug and firearms investigation in Holyoke led to the seizure of illegal weapons and significant quantities of narcotics following an early-morning search warrant execution on Dwight Street, authorities announced.
Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan confirmed that members of the FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force, along with Holyoke Police officers, carried out the operation on Friday, April 3, 2026, at approximately 4:30 a.m.
Investigators executed a search warrant at 771 Dwight Street, targeting a residence linked to Luis Sanchez, who was already wanted on drug trafficking charges.
Sanchez was taken into custody without incident.

During the search, authorities recovered:
- Two illegal firearms, including one equipped with an extended magazine capable of holding 17 rounds
- Approximately 1,500 vials of cocaine (23.5 grams)
- Approximately 800 bags of suspected fentanyl (20 grams)
Officials described the quantities as trafficking-level amounts of narcotics.
The investigation also led to a second arrest the day prior.
On April 2, Springfield Police officers conducted a motor vehicle stop and arrested 33-year-old Manuel Sanchez of Southampton, who had an outstanding warrant out of Hampden Superior Court for drug trafficking offenses involving cocaine and suspected fentanyl.
Authorities say both arrests are connected as part of a broader investigation targeting drug distribution activity in the region.
Luis Sanchez, 33, of Holyoke, is facing multiple serious charges, including:
- Trafficking in cocaine (18–36 grams)
- Trafficking in fentanyl (more than 10 grams)
- Possession of ammunition without an FID card
- Possession of a firearm without an FID card (two counts)
- Improper storage of a firearm
- Possession of a large-capacity feeding device
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony (two counts)
He is also being held on prior warrants for:
- Trafficking of a Class A drug (over 200 grams)
- Trafficking of a Class B drug (100–200 grams)
- Authorities noted that additional narcotics tied to the case had been seized earlier in the investigation, which ultimately led to the issuance of arrest warrants for the Sanchez brothers.
- The case remains active and ongoing, led by the FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force in coordination with local law enforcement agencies.
