Woburn – The arrest of 47-year-old Jean Brito, of Woburn, has been announced by the Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Massachusetts Department of Revenue Commissioner Geoffrey E. Snyder.

Yesterday, Brito was arraigned in the Middlesex Superior Court and released under conditions that include surrendering his passport, restricting travel to New England unless approved by the court, and signing a waiver of detention.

Brito operated Boston Quality Clean Services in Medford between 2018 and 2023. Authorities say he underreported business income by over $20 million and evaded more than $1.2 million in personal income taxes. Investigators say he frequently cashed business checks at check-cashing locations instead of depositing them in the company bank account and provided incomplete financial records to tax preparers, resulting in inaccurate returns filed with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.

Detectives of the Massachusetts State Police, working along with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Department of Revenue agents, and the FBI on Feb. 24 and executed search warrants at Brito’s Woburn residence and Medford business. Authorities recovered approximately $35,000 in cash, along with documents and electronic devices.

Team efforts of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Department of Revenue, and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Prevention and Control Unit to lead on this investigation. Prosecutor Graham Van Epps is handling the case.

Brito is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
