A 23-year-old Newport Center man is behind bars after Vermont State Police say he violently attacked a household member in Troy this week.

Troopers from the Derby Barracks were called to Searles Road around 10:07 p.m. Tuesday night for reports of a family disturbance. Investigators say Ethan Metivier assaulted a household member during the incident.

Metivier was taken into custody and hauled to the Derby Barracks for processing. He’s now facing charges of 1st Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault and Unlawful Restraint in the 1st Degree.

Police say Metivier was ordered held on $10,000 bail and transported to Northern State Correctional Facility. He’s due to face a judge Wednesday afternoon in Orleans County Superior Court.

Authorities are not releasing the victim’s name, consistent with state policy in cases involving domestic violence.

Vermont State Police Trooper Ian Alford is leading the investigation.
