With all the roster moves between the Worcester red Sox and the Boston Red Sox, Corey Rosier got the call up on Thursday from the Portland Sea Dogs to Worcester.

The 23-year-old Rosier was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 12th round of the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He was acquired by the Red Sox from San Diego with Eric Hosmer, Max Ferguson, and cash considerations for Jay Groome in August 2022.

In the last seven days Rosier has had fourteen plate appearances, had two runs, five hits and one RBI. For the season, Rosier has played in 50 games, had 183 plate appearances, 29 runs, 51 hits, two homers, 18 RBI, and 13 walks.

On Thursday I talked with Rosier pregame and when I asked what it was like when he got the call letting him know that he was coming to the Worcester Red Sox, Corey Rosier said Chad Epperson gave him a call, and “Knew it was uncharacteristic but definitely excited and stuff any time you get moved it’s a cool thing to be recognized.” Rosier added “I know Abreu is just coming off an injury so he’s going to play a few innings tonight and then I think I’ll go in to relieve him after that. Not sure how long I’ll be here but take the opportunity and run with it.”

When asked what Worcester Red Sox Manager Chad Tracy or any of the Worcester players said to him when he got to Polar Park, Rosier said “Everyone was super happy and just really supportive of me going up here, and telling me to keep playing my game, keep doing what I’m doing, and don’t try to press to hard.”

Rosier did make an appearance in Thursday night’s game against the IronPigs but Friday is when he made his way to the lineup and was in right field. He had three at bats, one run, one hit, one walk, and struck out twice.

Postgame Rosier  said, “In the first couple of bats I felt a little anxious and then I just said to myself be myself and have fun with it.” He added “It was pretty cool to experience that first hit.”

When asked about the difference between playing in Worcester, Portland and Greenville, Rosier said “The atmosphere is really cool. Obviously a bigger crowd is always fun. The crowd was really into it tonight, The strike zone seems a little tighter too.”

Following Friday night’s game when Worcester Red Sox Manager Chad Tracy was asked about Rosier he said, “He’s competitive, I’m impressed. Biggest thing that stuck with me, it seems like he has a very good feel for the strike zone.” Tracy added “I thought he took pretty competitive ABs.

Rosier is expected to be with the Worcester Red Sox for the remainder of this homestand, for the weekend.
