Cornerback Christian Gonzalez is turning heads at Patriots Camp thus far, according to Monday Morning Quarterback’s Albert Breer. He says the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft is being regarded as “the [Patriots] best corner during OTAs and minicamp.”
Gonzalez transferred to Oregon for his final season of college football after playing at Colorado for two years. In his final season, the former Duck recorded four interceptions and six pass breakups and was listed as the draft’s second best corner behind Illinois’ Devin Witherspoon, who went fifth overall to the Seattle Seahawks.
Gonzalez is projected to line up opposite another cornerback sensation in Jack Jones, who recorded two interceptions and six pass breakups for New England in 2022.
Jones’ future in New England is uncertain due to his gun charges, but should all of that pass, we could see the tandem of Jones and Gonzalez on the field together at some point in the preseason.
