Position Overview

The Vice President of News, Content & Programming is the senior executive responsible for the editorial direction, daily news operations, and programming strategy of NewsTalk New England. This role oversees the creation, curation, and distribution of news and original content across all platforms, ensuring coverage is accurate, timely, engaging, and reflective of the organization’s journalistic mission.

Reporting directly to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President of News, Content & Programming works closely with the Vice President of Photography and Videography and the Vice President of Sports to coordinate comprehensive coverage, align visual and audio storytelling, and deliver cohesive programming across news, sports, and digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial Leadership & News Operations

  • Lead all news-gathering, reporting, editing, and editorial decision-making.
  • Set daily and long-term editorial priorities for NewsTalk New England.
  • Oversee breaking news coverage, investigative reporting, enterprise stories, and special projects.
  • Ensure adherence to the highest standards of journalistic ethics, accuracy, and fairness.

Content & Programming Strategy

  • Develop and execute programming strategies across news, talk, and digital content.
  • Shape show formats, editorial calendars, and long-form content initiatives.
  • Align content strategy with audience needs, platform performance, and organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with programming teams to innovate and evolve content offerings.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Vice President of Photography and Videography to ensure strong visual storytelling and production quality.
  • Coordinate with the Vice President of Sports to integrate sports coverage into broader news and programming efforts.
  • Partner with executive leadership to ensure unified messaging and editorial cohesion.

Talent Management & Development

  • Oversee editors, producers, reporters, anchors, and content staff.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop newsroom and programming talent.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and editorial excellence.
  • Establish performance standards and conduct regular evaluations.

Audience Trust & Brand Integrity

  • Ensure content reflects and serves the diverse communities of New England.
  • Maintain consistent editorial standards across all platforms.
  • Respond to major news events, corrections, and audience concerns with transparency.
  • Help strengthen NewsTalk New England’s reputation as a trusted, authoritative news source.
