In Castleton, VT, a traffic stop on U.S. Route 4 has led to a DUI charge after Vermont State Police say a driver showed signs of impairment during an enforcement stop.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:42 p.m. on April 8, 2026, near mile marker 10. Troopers from the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks stopped a vehicle after observing multiple motor vehicle violations. The driver was identified as Robert Webster, 70, of Proctor, Vermont.

According to police, while speaking with Webster, troopers observed indicators of impairment. Webster participated in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence.

Webster was transported to the Rutland State Police Barracks and then to the Rutland City Police Department for processing. He was later released with a citation.

He is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Rutland Criminal Division, on April 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. to answer the charge.

The investigation remains ongoing.
