Crash with possible serious injuries in Southington

Southington — A violent two-car crash early Sunday morning left occupants of one vehicle hospitalized with possible serious injuries. Police say the crash happened at about 12:39 a.m. on Mount Vernon Road when a Honda Civic traveling northbound lost control, crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a Lexus sedan.

The occupants of the Honda Civic were transported to the hospital with possible serious injuries. The occupants of the Lexus were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The crash is being investigated by the Southington Police Department and the Southington Accident Investigation Team. Woman rescued from Norwalk River

Norwalk — Fire crews rushed a woman to the hospital Sunday morning after she was found floating in the Norwalk River.

Officials say responders located the woman after a caller reported seeing someone drifting with the current. Crews put on cold water suits and entered the water to maneuver the victim toward the shore. The woman was placed into a stokes basket, carried to a stretcher and transported to the hospital.

Pedestrian critically injured in Bridgeport

Bridgeport — A 70-year-old resident remains in critical but stable condition after being struck by a car Saturday night.

Police say the crash occurred at Capitol Avenue and Parrott Avenue. Officers arriving on scene found the pedestrian lying in the roadway. The driver, a 62-year-old from New York, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Investigators say the car was traveling eastbound on Capitol Avenue when it struck the pedestrian walking north. The Bridgeport Police Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bridgeport Police Department Traffic Division at 203-576-7640.

Six hospitalized after Farmington crash

Farmington — Six people were taken to the hospital after a violent two-car crash early Sunday morning on Waterville Road.

Police say one of the vehicles appeared to have rolled over during the collision. The five occupants inside the rollover vehicle needed help exiting the car. All six people involved were transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. Authorities say their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Waterville Road experienced temporary traffic disruptions while crews worked to clear the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

Driver hospitalized after Colchester pole crash

Colchester — A driver was transported to the hospital with suspected minor injuries early Saturday morning after crashing into a pole.

State police say the crash happened at about 1:32 a.m. on Route 354 near Lake Hayward Road. The state Department of Transportation reported the incident. The road was temporarily closed in both directions during the investigation but has since reopened.

Kayaker dies off Cape Cod

Wellfleet — A 22-year-old kayaker has died after his kayak overturned in the waters off Cape Cod Saturday evening.

Emergency services were notified at about 6:05 p.m. of a kayaker in distress drifting with the current. A massive search operation launched involving Wellfleet police, the shellfish warden, the harbormaster, the Eastham Harbormaster, Eastham police, Truro fire department and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The kayaker was located in the water by the harbormaster’s boat at 8:02 p.m. and brought to shore. Officials say he was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending notification of family.

DUIs spike during Newport parade weekend

Aquidneck Island — Police made multiple DUI arrests during the 70th annual Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade weekend.

Rhode Island State Police say seven people were charged with driving under the influence in Newport and Middletown on Saturday, March 14. The majority of arrests occurred on Aquidneck Island.

Troopers deployed the BAT Mobile in Middletown from 7 p.m. through 2 a.m. to test blood alcohol levels and process DUI arrests. Authorities say one additional DUI arrest was made in North Kingstown, the only arrest outside Aquidneck Island that night.
