Westport, RI – The Westport Police Department was responding to a 911 call after reports of a shooting at a residence on Eddy Drive.
When officers arrived, they located at 15-year-old female with a gunshot wound to her hand. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment; her injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
Police identified Vijay Hak, 16, as being involved in the incident. A shotgun was found in the first-floor kitchen and rendered safe. Hak complied with the commands given by the officers and was detained without incident.

A full investigation was launched, resulting in his arrest. Furthermore, a search warrant was obtained for the residence, and a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms and Xanax was found. A second warrant was then obtained to continue the search, which further uncovered additional narcotics and contraband, including a Polymer 80 “ghost gun.”
Hak is facing charges, including assault and battery by discharging a firearm, possession of large-capacity firearms and feeding devices, improper storage of firearms, possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a shotgun without an FID/LTC, receiving stolen property, and possession with intent to distribute various controlled substances, including psilocybin mushrooms, Xanax, Codeine Phosphate, Adderall, and Tapentadol.
He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
