Hartland, VT (Royalton Barracks) – According to State Police, troopers responded to the intersection of VT Route four and VT Route 12 at 4:36 pm on Feb. 24.

David Fitzgerald, 73, of Windsor, was identified as the driver of a Toyota Prius, and Annmarie Pintal, 56, of Amherst, NH, was the driver of a Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

At the time of the crash, both Fitzgerald and Pintal were wearing seat belts. Reports say that both vehicles sustained significant damage and were considered totaled.

During a preliminary investigation, it had been determined that Fitzgerald struck Pintal’s vehicle, which was traveling east on VT Route 4, when he failed to stop at VT Route 12 intersection.

According to the troopers who responded to the scene, Fitzgerald showed signs of impairment. At this time, he was placed into custody on suspicion of DUI-Drug and transported for processing to Royalston Barracks. But was later released for a citation to appear in court on a DUI-Drug charge.

Pintal was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with minor injuries.

This crash remains under investigation.

Fitzgerald is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
