Malta, N.Y. – Shayne F. Vaccaro, age 22, has been arrested by New York State Police in connection with a stabbing that occurred on February 15, 2026, at a business in the Shops at Malta in the Town of Malta, Saratoga County.
At approximately 2219 hours, Vaccaro ran toward the patrol vehicle of a State Trooper who was actively completing a traffic stop on State Route 67 and stated he had just stabbed someone. He was immediately taken into custody without incident.
Addition units were requested and responded to a nearby restaurant, where they located a 34-year old male employee suffering from stab wounds to the chest and arm. A deputy with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office applied a tourniquet, and EMS personnel provided medical care before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The victim is listed in stable condition and expected to survive.
An investigation determined that Mr. Vaccaro waited outside the restaurant and attacked the victim as he exited his shift. The knife believed to have been used in the incident was recovered and processed by the State Police Forensic Investigation Unit.
Vaccaro was arraigned early this morning on a charge of:
- Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (Class B Felony)
he remains at the Saratoga County Jail on a $200,000 cash bail or $400,000 bond. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
This remains under investigation.
