FALL RIVER, Mass. — A mother and her son were shot to death Friday night in Fall River, Massachusetts, authorities said.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office confirmed it is investigating the fatal shooting, identifying the victims as 25-year-old Nicholas Almeida and 54-year-old Elizabeth Almeida. Fall River police received a 911 call just after 8 p.m. reporting a double shooting at 431 Barnes Street. Officers arrived to find both victims suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Officials said the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Arlington Cole, was found at the scene with a firearm. Cole, who was described as being “in a dating relationship with Elizabeth Almeida,” was taken into custody and charged with two counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.
Further details about the incident have not been released. State police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office are actively investigating alongside the Fall River Police Department.
The shooting highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence and gun-related incidents, as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the deaths of both mother and son.
