New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella says the fatal shooting of an East Coast Football League player is under active investigation.
Malcolm Burns, 34, of Northwood, New Hampshire who played for the Granite State Destroyers was shot by a Northwood police officer on Tuesday, October 1.
Attorney General Formella said a Northwood Police Officer responded to 534 First New Hampshire Turnpike in Northwood for a report of domestic violence between Malcolm Burns and his father.
Upon arrival the officer went inside the residence, and allegedly physical altercation between the officer and Burns occurred.
During that altercation, Formella says the officer used deadly force and fired at Burns, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The autopsy of Burns was been done by New Hampshire Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Mitchell Weinberg, and he determined the cause of Burns’ death was a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, and the manner of death was homicide.
Formella has confirmed that the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating the officer involved shooting.
The identity of the officer using deadly force, Formella said, will not be disclosed until a formal interview takes place in the 5 to 10 business days.
