The UConn Huskies hosted the Duke Blue Devils in a matchup of two “basketball schools”, as they’re more commonly known. Duke basketball has dominated for decades under head coach Mike Krzyzewski, also known as Coach K, and UConn’s men’s basketball team just won the National Championship back in March.
As for each football team, they’d been less successful over the year. Duke, however, was coming off a huge win over coach Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers and were looking to continue their hot streak.
Duke dominated the entire game, coming just seconds from pitching a shutout on the road. Jordan Waters scored two first half touchdowns and DeWayne Carter recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown in the third quarter as Duke led 41-0 in the final seconds.
With just 12 seconds left, UConn got on the board with a two-yard touchdown run from Ta’Quan Robinson to avoid the shutout. It was far too little, far too late for the Huskies as Duke won 41-7.
The 18th ranked Blue Devils face another tough test at home next week as they take on the ninth ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. UConn will host Utah State next week.
