By Darryl Harding Sr –

On a beautiful day for baseball the Woosox host the last of their six game home stand against the AAA affiliate of Tampa Bay, the Durham  Bulls. RHP Naoyuki Uwasawa took the mound for the Sox and fell  into immediate trouble allowing three singles and a run scored by Bulls DH Josh Lowe.

Uwasawa settled in, pitching four  scoreless innings. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Durham until starting LHP Joe Rock collided with Sox 3B Jamie Westbrook in the bottom of the third, blasting a double and scoring SS Chase Meidroth and 2B Nick Sogard from 2nd and 3rd.

With the Woosox up 2-1, Rock found himself in more trouble in the bottom of the 5th. Rock loaded the bases and was replaced by reliever RHP Joe Record. Rock pitched 4.1 innings with six hits, three runs and seven strikeouts.

A sacrifice grounder by CF Mark Contreras scored Sogard, increasing the Worcester lead to 3-1. Uwasawa went five innings with five hits and seven strikeouts. Spelling Uwasawa in the 6th, Vlad Guttierez took the mound.Initially throwing balls Gutierrez finally managed to wriggle out of a bases loaded situation.

Going 11 for 34 at the plate Woosox bats were on fire, three for five from Sogard as well as a two-run homer from Kolozsvary had  the Sox firing on all cylinders. “I was very happy the way we bounced back in all three phases,” said Woosox manager Chad Tracy after the game, “we swung the bats pretty darn good.”

Woosox continue with away games in Toledo Tuesday through Sunday.
