Chicago Police Officer And Ada County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Shot and Killed Over The Weekend

By Tiffany Williams –

A weekend filled with tragedy as our nation mourns the loss of two law enforcement officers who were taken from us too soon.

Officer Luis Huesca, 30, of the Chicago Police Department, was shot and killed in the line of duty early Sunday morning. The shooting occurred at about 2:55 am. in the 3100 block of West 56th Street in Chicago, where Officer Huesca was found by other officers with multiple gunshot wounds. His gun, badge, and personal vehicle were stolen from the scene. He sadly succumbed to his wounds at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Officer Huesca had been with CPD for six years and was only two days shy of his 31st birthday.

Less than a year ago, in May 2023, 24-year-old Aréanah Preston , who also worked in the 5th District, was killed after finishing her shift, just steps from her home.

CPD says investigators are still looking for a suspect, and they have not yet identified any suspects. A motive for the shooting, CPD says, is still unknown.

Deputy Sheriff Tobin Bolter of Boise also fell victim to a senseless act of gun violence while conducting a traffic stop Saturday night. The driver of the vehicle opened fire on Deputy Bolter at about 9:00 pm near the intersection of W Overland Road and S Raymond Street. Despite efforts to save him, Deputy Bolter tragically passed away at a local hospital.
