Red Sox Fall To Orioles, 9-4 In Third Straight Loss At Home

By Tiffany Williams –

In a Thursday night game against the Baltimore Orioles, the Boston Red Sox suffered a 9-4 loss and were swept for the first time this season. The last time the Sox were swept in a 3-game series was against Houston in August 2023.

Jarren Duran led off the bottom of the first with a double and later scored. Wilyer Abreu hit an RBI double, scoring Triston Casas and extending the Red Sox’ lead to 2-0.

In the bottom of the eighth, Connor Wong hit his first career pinch-hit solo homer and first homer of the season, tying the game at 3.

Jarren Duran hit his second double of the game in the bottom of the tenth, scoring Pablo Reyes and giving the Red Sox a 4-3 win.

Garrett Whitlock started for the Red Sox, pitching for five innings and throwing a total of 85 pitches, with 54 of them being strikes. During his time on the mound, Whitlock allowed four hits, one run, and walked two batters, while also striking out four.

The Sox have gotten off to a disappointing start to their season-long ten-game homestand, going winless in their first three games. However, they will have a chance to turn things around on Friday night when they host the Los Angeles Angels for game one of a three-game weekend series, before facing off against the Cleveland Guardians in a four-game series starting next week.
