By Stephen Ur –

The Worcester Red Sox hosted the Columbus Clippers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Wednesday night. Columbus knocked seven home runs in their 16-4 victory over the WooSox on Tuesday night. Josh Winckowski took the mound for Worcester while Darren McCaughan took the mound for Columbus.

The WooSox got on the board first with a solo shot to right field from Wilyer Abreyu in the bottom of the first. A Jamie Westbrook double in the bottom of the fourth allowed Nick Sogard and Nathan Hickey to score, increasing Worcester’s lead to 3-0.  Westbrook would score later in the inning on a throwing error from pitcher John Doxakis made it a 4-0 and a sac fly from Chase Meidroth allowed Eddy Alverez to score, making it a 5-0 game.

A Sogard double in the bottom of the sixth allowed Mark Contreras to score, and the WooSox now lead 6-0. Westbrook, in his return to Worcester, knocked a three-run home run in the next at-bat in the inning, extending the lead to 9-0.

Columbus closed the gap to 9-4 by the bottom of the eighth inning, mostly due in part to two home runs by Jose Tena. Abreu hit his second home run of the night, a line drive to left field, to make it what would be the final score of 10-4.

Game 3 of this six-game series will take place tomorrow night at Polar Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. ET.
