The Boston Celtics hosted the San Antonio Spurs in their third-to-last regular season home game of the 2022-2023 NBA season. Boston was well on their way to the postseason while the Spurs were looking to pull off a huge upset.
Jayson Tatum did not play in this game, so it was Jaylen Brown who stepped up big time for Boston, scoring 41 points and also recording 13 rebounds as the Celtics routed the Spurs, 137-93. The win was their seventh in the last nine games.
Brown scored 26 points in the first half, and the Celtics erased an eight-point deficit to take a 10-point lead into the locker room.
Derrick White, who finished with 19 points, scored the first nine points in the fourth quarter, knocking down three consecutive threes, to make it a 107-77 game at one point.
While it was a special performance for the Celtics on the court – for the most part – there was also a special appearance as former Celtics great Paul Pierce was in attendance. He wore a sweatshirt that read “The Truth” and the the number 34 on it. Pierce was part of the Celtics big three that won the championship in 2008.
The Celtics are back on the road on Tuesday night as they face the Washington Wizards in DC. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET.
