Worcester Red Sox Open 2023 with 11-2 Win Over Syracuse Mets

The Worcester Red Sox opened their 2023 season against the Syracuse Mets at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Saturday night. Pitcher Whitlock took the mound for the WooSox.

Syracuse got on the board first in when Carlos Cortes scored on a double hit by Francisco Alvarez in the top of the third inning. Worcester would use a strong third and fourth inning to break the game open.

David Hamilton hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the third to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead. They would go on to score four runs in the fourth, which included a two-run homer from Greg Allen. Daniel Polka hit Worcester’s third home run of the evening in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 7-1.

In the end, the WooSox came out victorious with a 11-2 win to start the 2023 season. Whitlock finished with 6 IP, giving up six hits, but only allowing one run while striking out six.

The WooSox are back in action today as they will host the Mets for the second consecutive day. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET, weather pending.
