Sunday Funday Minor League Baseball In New England

After the rain moved out and the sun decided to move in over Worcester, it was time to play ball for the Worcester Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings. This has not been Worcester’s best series after losing the first five and Worcester has only won three of their last twelve contests. Yolmer Sanchez opened up the game for Worcester with a run in the bottom of the third and then Jeter Downs had the second run of the game in the bottom of the third. At the top of the seventh, Connor Seabold was relieved by Durbin Feltman. Seabold threw 92 pitches in six innings, 62 strikes and struckout eleven. At the top of the seventh At the top of the seventh Rochester got into the game with Andrew Young hitting his third homer 443 feet to center to drive in Chris Herrmann. In the bottom of the seventh Jarren Duran scored for Worcester and then at the top of the ninth Chris Herrmann scored again to tie the game up 3-3 and this game into the tenth inning. At the top of the tenth Rochester got four across the plate. In the bottom of the tenth Ryan Fitzgerald hit a single to drive in Triston Casas but it wasn’t enough as Rochester secured the win.

Up North in Manchester, New Hampshire the Fisher Cats on Sunday wrapped up their six-game homestand against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. At the top of the first Ronny Marricio hit tenth double of the season, driving in Wyatt Young and Brett Baty for the Rumble Ponies. Will Robertson in the bottom of the fourth scored for the Fisher Cats. Jeremy Vasquez at the top of the 6th hit his third homer of the season for the Rumble Ponies but in the bottom of the 8th the Fisher Cats took over this game First with a run by Lj Tally, then Philip Clarke scored to tie the game up but Will Robertson got a run to secure a 5-4 win for the Fisher Cats.

Down south in Hartford, Connecticut the Yard Goats claimed a 7-6 win against the Portland Sea Dogs. The Yard Goats have won nine of their last thirteen contests at home, playing two back-to-back homestands to start May. The Sea Dogs have only won five of their last thirteen contests and only had two wins in their six-game set against the Yard Goats. At the bottom of the second Arron Schunk opened this game up for the Yard Goats with a double to drive in Brenton Doyle and Daniel Cope. In the bottom of the fourth Brenton Doyle hit his fourth homer of the season to center and in the bottom of the sixth the Yard Goats had two homers with Kyle Datres and Aaron Shunk who drove in Brenton Doyle. In the bottom of the seventh Kyle Datres hit a single to drive in Michael Toglia. The Sea Dogs found their way to getting into this game at the top of the ninth with Kole Cottam, Christian Koss, Brandon Howlett, David Hamilton and Nick Sogard all scoring but the late rally wasn’t enough to feed the Goats a loss.

All four New England Minor League teams, Worcester, Portland, Manchester and Hartford will have Monday off but then will get right back to work on Tuesday.

Worcester will stay home at Polar Park to host the Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders, affiliate of the New York Yankees. Hartford Yard Goats will travel to Bowie, Maryland to meet the Bowie Baysox (Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles). The Portland Sea Dogs will travel to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to meet the Harrisburg Senators (Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals). The Manchester Fisher Cats will travel to Erie, Pennsylvania to meet the SeaWolves.
