The New England Patriots are gearing up for their regular season finale this Sunday in Miami against the Miami Dolphins. Sunday’s matchup between the Patriots and the Dolphins will be the second of two meetings in 2021. The Patriots lost to the Dolphins by one point, 17-16 in the 2021 season-opener on September 12.
The Patriots will be playing against Miami in the final regular game of the season for the 17th time overall. Of the 16 season-finale meetings, eight of them were played in Miami. The Patriots are 8-8 in those games, including 4-4 in those games played at Miami.
Mac Jones last week completed 22 of 30 atts. (73.3 pct.) for 227 yards and 3 TDs vs. 0 interceptions for 128.1. Last week was Jones’ 9th game with 70+ comp. pct., tied with Dak Prescott for most-ever by a rookie QB.Jones has 2+ TD passes in 2 of past 3. Passed for 281 yards and TD vs. 0 interceptions for 102.6 rating in Week 1 meeting. Has 0 INTs in 4 of 5 starts vs. division and he leads rookies in comp. pct. (67.6), pass yards (3,540) and TD passes (21).
RB Damien Harris has not just been on top of his game but has been the go to guy for Mac Jones this season and this week he is aiming for 5th in row with rush TD and 3rd in row with 2+ rush TDs. Harris has 100+ rush yards in 2 of the past 3. Had 117 scrimmage yards (100 rush, 17 rec.) in Week 1 meeting. Harris is also aiming for his 4th in row vs. division with 100+ rush yards and has 9 rushing TDs in his past 5 at home.
Meanwhile, defensive back J.C.Jackson recorded his eighth interception of the season, has 25 interceptions since entering the NFL in 2018 and is the fourth player in the Super Bowl era with at least 25 interceptions in his first four seasons.
I have no doubt that the Patriots can bring on an aggressive game this Sunday against the Dolphins like they did last week against the Jaguars. If they can pull off a win this week the AFC East could have a new winner with the Patriots clinching the division. For that to happen though, the Buffalo would need a loss against the Jets.
