Fall River Woman Pleads Guilty To Stealing $84,222 From Social Security

By Jose Ojeda –

On Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts, Gloria Camara, 58, of Fall River pleaded guilty to stealing Social Security disability benefits.

In 1992 Camara began receiving Social Security disability benefits and in November 2009 she began working as a caregiver.

Camara failed to report to Social Security that she was working and during a periodic eligibility reviews Camara falsely told Social Security that her only income consisted of three months of unemployment compensation benefits in 2008, and sporadic wages from two companies between 2003 and 2011.

Because Camara did not report her earnings as a caregiver, she stole approximately $84,222 in Social Security benefits from November 2009 through October 2019.

U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani scheduled Camara to be sentenced on December 15, 2020.
