Springfield Police Arrest Man With Loaded Firearm On Wilbraham Road

On Thursday night at about 10:40 p.m., officers with the Springfield Police Department observed a vehicle on Walsh Street traveling at a high rate of speed. Officers additionaly observed the vehicle run a stop sign as it turned onto Wilbraham Road.

Officers stopped the vehicle on Archie Street and the driver began to run away. While the driver was running from officers he dropped a bag in the backyard of a home on Archie Street. Officers recovered the bag and inside was a semi-automatic large capacity firearm with 15 rounds in the magazine.

The driver was located on Wilbraham and he was taken into custody. Officers identified the driver as Markendall McCulley, 37, of Springfield.

McCulley has been charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a high capacity magazine/feeding device, possession of ammunition without an FID card, firearm serial number defaced, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.
