A former deputy sheriff with the Matagorda County, Texas Sheriff’s Office on Thursday pleaded guilty at the U.S. District Court in Worcester to one count of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of cyberstalking.

In 2014, Pasquale T. Salas began communicating with an underage girl in an online video game. The communication with the underage girl moved from the video game to text messaging, Skype and Snapchat. In his communication with the underage girl, Salas repeatedly solicited the girl to transmit sexually explicit images and videos of herself.

In 2016 Salas continued to communicate with the underage girl and his communication with her became intimidating. Salas got the girl to send him additional sexually explicit material and he threatened to send the minor’s sexually explicit images and videos to her family and her friends.

When the girl attempted to stop communication with Salas in May 2019, he repeatedly sent threatening communications to the her.

When Salas was arrested his cell phone was taken and recovered from the phone was a video of the girl performing sexually explicit acts that Salas had coerced her to perform.

Salas also admitted to communicating with a second underage girl from the time she was 12 until she was 16. In his communication with the second underage girl, Salas solicited sexually explicit images from her and sent her photographs of himself in a police car and with a gun. He told the girl that he had friends in law enforcement in Massachusetts and that no one would believe her if she reported what he had done.

U.S. District Court Judge Timothy S. Hillman has scheduled sentencing for Salas to be on September 3, 2020.
